LAMPS

Laboratory for Mechanics and Physics of Solids (LAMPS) focuses on experimental mechanics, with capabilities for testing material properties, evaluating the structural behaviour of complex geometries, architected materials, joining and bonding techniques or structural designs.

Laboratory Safety and Rules of Conduct

Laboratory Safety:

  • For experiments involving potential hazards, the laboratory administrator must be contacted for a review of the safety procedures.

  • All personal injuries must be reported immediately and in writing to the laboratory administrator.

  • You may only use equipment if you have received appropriate training and hold the necessary approvals.

  • Always consult the staff if you are in doubt about anything.

Rules of conduct: 

  • Inform the staff immediately if you discover faults or problems with any equipment.

  • All tools and materials must remain within LAMPS at all times.

  • When using equipment, you are responsible for both its condition and the surrounding workspace.

  • Make sure to clean up after yourself.

  • Eating or drinking is not permitted in LAMPS.

Access and admission requirements

As a student, you must contact the laboratory administrator with a project description and a description of the work to be carried out in the laboratory. The laboratory may only be used after receiving instruction in the use of the equipment.

If you are a staff member interested in using the laboratory, you must contact the laboratory administrator.

Opening Hours:

The laboratory can only be accessed by students or others who have been granted access.

For those with access, the laboratory is open all hours when not used for teaching.
