Profile

As an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University, I research renal and muscle physiology. Using advanced in vivo imaging and quantitative methods, I study kidney injury, nephron loss, and the role of vascular function in tissue damage and regeneration. I also teach and supervise students. I hold a PhD in Physiology and a master’s degree in Sport Science.

Research

I conduct research in experimental renal and muscle physiology, with particular focus on the mechanisms that drive kidney injury progression and nephron loss, as well as the vascular regulation of muscle damage and regeneration. Using longitudinal intravital two-photon imaging, quantitative image analysis, and functional physiological measurements, my goal is to identify early cellular and vascular changes that predict tissue damage and contribute to disease progression.

Teaching activities

I teach renal physiology, skeletal-muscle physiology, integrated physiology, pharmacology, and advanced in vivo imaging on the Medicine, Molecular Medicine, and Sport Science degree programmes. Using visual models, physiological data, guided questions, and research-based laboratory teaching, my goal is for students to progress from recalling isolated mechanisms to applying them when explaining integrated organ function, interpreting experimental results, and understanding disease mechanisms.

Job responsibilities

My primary area of responsibility is experimental physiology, including skeletal muscle and renal physiology, microvascular function, vascular biology, and longitudinal intravital imaging. I also work with renal and muscle degeneration and regeneration and quantitative image analysis, and I contribute to teaching, examination, and supervision in Medicine, Molecular Medicine, and Sport Science.
