Peter Vedsted is a medical consultant and Professor at the University Research Clinic for Innovative Patient Pathways, Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, the Diagnostic Centre at the Regional Hospitals in Viborg, Silkeborg and Skive & The research Unit for General Practice in Aarhus. His work spans clinical research, general practice, epidemiology, public health and health services research, with a particular focus on diagnostics and coordinated patient pathways.
Peter Vedsted investigates how diseases are detected, with a particular focus on earlier diagnosis of cancer and other time-critical diseases. As a professor of general practice, he founded the research centre for primary cancer diagnosis funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Danish Cancer Society. The centre has had an international impact on research and has contributed to the development of healthcare. His research combines clinical data, epidemiological methods, registry data and social science perspectives, with the aim of generating knowledge that can be applied in clinical practice and in the development of healthcare.
Peter Vedsted teaches and organises postgraduate courses for healthcare professionals. Over the years, he has given scientific presentations at international conferences and as an invited speaker. He supervises PhD students and postdoctoral researchers and has supervised more than 35 PhD students and postdocs.

He has experience in translating research evidence into healthcare planning and in developing approaches that strengthen coordination across healthcare sectors.
Peter Vedsted works in clinical research, epidemiology, public health and health services research. A central focus of his work is the relationship between research and healthcare planning, as well as better integration between general practice, hospitals and other parts of the healthcare system. He also has extensive experience in establishing, leading and supporting research teams.
From 2018 to 2022, he served as Senior Consultant and Medical Lead in North Greenland, where he worked with healthcare and patient care in an Arctic setting.
