Profile

As an Associate Professor at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, I specialize in dental health among older adults, with a focus on how aging and diseases affect the teeth, mouth, and jaws (oral gerontology). My primary role is teaching students across all dental education programs.

I hold a degree in dentistry and a Ph.D. in odontology. In my research, I explore the impact of aging and age-related diseases on oral health. Additionally, I work as a hospital dentist in Faroe Islands, where I provide special care dentistry, and furthermore occasionally as a private dentist.

Research

I conduct research on oral and dental health in older adults, focusing on how ageing and diseases affect oral tissues. Through population studies, I have explored how dementia can impact dental health and examined the dental status and oral health of older adults in the Faroe Islands. My goal is to contribute to ensuring that everyone – regardless of age, illness, or disability – has the opportunity to maintain good oral and dental health.

Job responsibilities

My primary responsibility is educating dental students, dental hygiene students and clinical technicians students, where I also serve as a course coordinator. This role includes teaching, curriculum development, coordinating fellow instructors, and creating and updating educational materials. Additionally, I supervise students in writing assignments and hold examinations.

I furthermore conduct professional courses for medical doctors, dentists, dental hygienists, and other healthcare professionals.
