Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, and Clinical Specialist at the Department of Functional Somatic Disorders, Aarhus University Hospital.
I hold an MSc in Medicine with Industrial Specialisation (cand.scient.med.) from Aalborg University (2015) and a PhD from Aarhus University (2019).
My research on functional disorder ranges from basic research to epidemiology. I am the scientific coordinator of DanFunD, co-chair of the working group for FuncData, and chair of the Research Committee of the Danish Society for Functional Disorders.
I conduct research within functional somatic disorder with a particular focus on development, risk factors, course, and prognosis. Through large population-based studies, register data, clinical databases, and patient-reported outcomes, my aim is to generate knowledge about who develops functional somatic disorder, how the condition develops over time, and how the quality of care can be measured and improved. My research contributes to ensuring that patients with functional somatic disorder can be identified earlier and receive better and more consistent care across the healthcare system.
I teach health psychology in the medical programme at Aarhus University. Through case-based teaching and workshops, my aim is to give medical students an understanding of the interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors in health and disease that they can apply in their encounters with patients. I also teach research in functional somatic disorder in the Specialist Training Programme in Functional Disorders under the Danish Society for Functional Disorders (DASEFU). Here, the aim is to give participants insight into the latest research as well as general research methodology, so that this knowledge can be translated into evidence-based clinical practice.
I have supervised several PhD students and research year students, primarily in epidemiological projects.
I collaborate with the Center for Clinical Research and Prevention, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital, on the coordination of DanFunD, and with the regional centres for functional disorders on the FuncData database. The aim is to generate new knowledge about functional disorder and to improve assessment and treatment.
I am also part of the European research network EURONET-SOMA.
