Profile

I am a medical doctor, PhD and Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, affiliated with Prehospital Emergency Medical Services, Central Denmark Region. My research focuses on acute and critically ill patients, particularly cardiac arrest. I combine research and supervision with clinical work in anaesthesiology and have coordinated the COCA and IVIO clinical trials.

Research

My research focuses on improving survival and quality of life after cardiac arrest. Through randomised clinical trials, I investigate drug treatments, vascular access and defibrillation strategies. Through epidemiological research, I explore new hypotheses that could be tested in larger trials. I also study patients' and relatives' perspectives on information and consent in emergency trials.

Teaching activities

I have taught medical students during Acute Care Week at Aarhus University and revised e-learning materials for its anaesthesia day. I use resuscitation cases and help junior researchers develop their teaching skills. I have also developed educational materials for COCA and IVIO to help prehospital staff carry out trial procedures in clinical practice.

Collaborations

I collaborate with researchers, doctors and ambulance staff across Denmark's five regions on cardiac arrest trials. I have also visited and worked with Warwick Clinical Trials Unit in England. STRAT-DEFI includes partners in Finland and Belgium. Together, we investigate how to improve cardiac arrest care. I also work with colleagues in psychology and cardiology on patients' and relatives' experiences of emergency research.

Consultancy

I advise students and research colleagues on the design and conduct of clinical trials, particularly in cardiac arrest. This includes trial procedures, data collection and information for patients and relatives. My experience includes serving on the steering committees of COVIPOC, BIHCA and GA-TARGETS, as well as coordinating COCA, IVIO, and STRAT-DEFI.

Job responsibilities

I develop and conduct clinical research projects at Prehospital Emergency Medical Services, alongside selected epidemiological projects. My responsibilities include project management, grant applications and supervision of PhD, research-year and master's students. I have also developed digital solutions for data collection, quality assurance and consent, as well as educational materials for staff involved in clinical trials.
