As a clinical epidemiologist and general practitioner, my research is focused on primary care, complex multimorbidity, continuity of care, patient pathways across healthcare sectors and the interaction between mental and physical health.
My work has demonstrated a strong association between physical and mental comorbidity (NEJM 2020, JAMA Psychiatry 2022) and that continuity of care for patients with chronic conditions is associated with more appropriate healthcare utilization and lower mortality (BMC Medicine 2023, Lancet Primary Care 2025), informing both clinical guidelines and national policy.
I lead the Multimorbidity research group at the Research Unit for General Practice, Aarhus University, where I have developed a nationwide cohort infrastructure of 4.7 million Danish adults that supports comprehensive register-based research on disease accumulation, care coordination, and outcomes.
