Profile

As an Associate Professor and Research Group Leader at Aarhus University, I conduct research in the areas of molecular neuroscience, psychopharmacology, and psychiatry. My work focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal plasticity and their relevance to psychiatric disorders and therapeutic development. At Aarhus University, I regularly teach neuroscience and pharmacology in several courses at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. I also contribute to teaching at other universities, including the University of São Paulo, and previously served as a lecturer and course coordinator in the Brain & Mind Master’s and PhD Programme at the University of Helsinki. My current roles include leading a research group, serving as course leader for the summer course Psychopharmacology and Neuroplasticity in Psychiatry, and serving on the editorial boards of Scientific Reports and Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience.

Research

Our research focuses on the molecular mechanisms regulating neural plasticity and on developing compounds to pharmacologically modulate these targets. One of our current projects investigates how nitric oxide (NO) and the BDNF–TrkB system shape neural networks in health and disease. Using in silico, in vitro, in vivo, and clinical approaches, we aim to identify molecular brakes on plasticity and develop improved treatments for psychiatric disorders.

Job responsibilities

My primary area of responsibility is research and teaching in neuroscience and pharmacology within the Medicine and Molecular Medicine curricula. This includes leading research on neuronal plasticity with focus on its relevance to psychiatric disorders, and teaching at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels. My supervision experience includes both ongoing and completed bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD thesis projects, as supervisor and co-supervisor. I also contribute to academic service through course leadership, editorial board membership, and peer review for international journals and research funding agencies.
