I am an Associate Professor at Aarhus University with expertise in avian virology, infectious diseases, and veterinary medicine. My research focuses on Marek’s disease virus, viral pathogenesis, latency, oncogenesis, virus-host interactions, avian immunology, and vaccine development. I have extensive international research experience, including at Freie Universität Berlin, and collaborate with academic and research partners across Europe and internationally.
My research focuses on avian virology, particularly Marek’s disease virus (MDV), viral pathogenesis, latency, oncogenesis, and virus-host interactions. I investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying viral infection, persistence, immune evasion, and disease development, integrating molecular virology, avian immunology, experimental infection models, and vaccine development to improve prevention and control of avian viral diseases.
My teaching focuses on veterinary virology, infectious diseases, poultry health, and public health. I use research-based teaching, lectures, practical training, case-based learning, and student supervision. My aim is to connect fundamental virology with clinical and epidemiological aspects of infectious diseases and develop students’ skills in critical thinking, diagnostics, prevention, and evidence-based veterinary practice.
My research involves interdisciplinary and international collaboration within and outside Europe across virology, veterinary medicine, immunology, molecular biology, and infectious disease research. I collaborate with academic and research partners to investigate viral pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, disease prevention, and vaccine development, combining complementary expertise and approaches to address complex challenges in avian infectious diseases.
I provide scientific consultancy in veterinary virology, avian infectious diseases, poultry health, Vaccine development, and disease prevention. My expertise supports research and diagnostic activities related to viral pathogenesis, epidemiology, molecular virology, vaccination, and biosecurity. I contribute scientific advice to academic, veterinary, and industry partners, translating research findings into practical approaches for disease control and improved animal health
As an Associate Professor at Aarhus University, I am responsible for developing an independent research programme in avian virology and infectious diseases, securing external research funding, supervising students and researchers, and building national and international collaborations. I contribute to research-based teaching in veterinary medicine, provide scientific consultancy, and support the development of innovative approaches to disease prevention, control, and animal health.
