I am a senior consultant and associate professor at Aarhus University Hospital, a specialist in oncology, and hold a PhD from Aarhus University. I treat upper gastrointestinal cancers and implement AI in radiotherapy. With years of clinical, research and teaching experience, I am passionate about advancing cancer care and training future oncologists. I chair the Danish EsophagoGastric Cancer Group and collaborate on national and international research projects.
I study cancer treatment, focusing on the benefits and late effects and blood-based biomarkers. Through clinical studies and analyses of patient data, I aim to identify who benefits from different treatments. My research helps clinicians make more informed treatment decisions to improve patients’ survival and quality of life.
I teach radiotherapy and the clinical use of AI on national courses for junior oncologists and international ESTRO courses. Drawing on clinical practice, I aim to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to use new methods safely and critically. I have also contributed to book chapters and led the national introductory course in radiotherapy. I am currently a course leader on the Danish national course in radiotherapy for oncology residents.
I collaborate with oncologists, surgeons, physicists and researchers in Denmark and internationally on cancer treatment. Our aim is to generate evidence that can improve treatment outcomes and reduce side effects for patients.
Drawing on my expertise as a clinician and researcher, I provide professional advice to colleagues and contribute to national clinical guidelines to support evidence-based treatment decisions. I also chair the Danish EsophagoGastric Cancer Group, helping to guide national collaboration in the field. In addition, I am a member of the Danish Medicines Council’s expert committee on the treatment of gastric and gastro-oesophageal junction cancers.
My primary responsibility is the oncological treatment of oesophageal and gastric cancers, including radiotherapy planning and the implementation of AI-based contouring in clinical practice. I also contribute to clinical trials, national guidelines and interdisciplinary research, teach doctors and medical students, and supervise PhD students and medical students undertaking a research year at Aarhus University.
