Profile

Clinical Professor and Senior Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Since 2004 I have worked with palliative care for adults and children with all types of serious illness. My background includes general practice, specialist recognition in palliative medicine, and a PhD on palliative care in primary care.

My research focuses on improving palliative care, and especially for people who are most vulnerable, including disadvantaged groups, children and young people, and people with severe mental illness.

Research

I am conducting research on all aspects of Palliative Care with particular focus on Advance Care Planning, organisation and inequality of Palliative Care.

Currently, I am the PI of the large, national research initiative CASEMED (Cancer Patients with pre-existing Severe Mental Disorders)

Using and combining various research methods, my goal is to improve palliative care for all who needs it.

Consultancy

I am a board member of The European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) and a member of the steering group of Danish Palliative Care Database,

As one of three Danish MD professors in Palliative Medicine, we are all three associate members of The Danish Association for Palliative Medicine.

Additional, I am the founder of the Danish Research Network on Palliative Care.

Job responsibilities

I lead Palliative Care Research Aarhus, with responsibility for research, education, and financial management. I strive to build a supportive, research-driven environment based on collaboration across professions and disciplines, strong research ethics, and high-quality palliative care research.

Additionally, I teach palliative care to healthcare professionals and students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
