Research

I am Professor of Medical Physics at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital. My research aims to improve cancer care through clinical evidence, technological innovation and international collaboration. My work has contributed to changing radiotherapy practice worldwide, particularly in gynaecological cancer. I am now expanding my research into environmental sustainability to help develop high-quality cancer care with a lower environmental impact.

Teaching activities

I teach and supervise students and researchers in medical physics, radiotherapy and clinical research. I contribute extensively to international education in radiotherapy of gynaecological cancer and have helped develop educational programmes that support the implementation of image-guided treatment internationally. I increasingly integrate environmental sustainability into education, with the aim of preparing healthcare professionals for this emerging aspect of clinical practice.

Collaborations

International collaboration is central to my research. Through EMBRACE, I work with researchers and clinicians worldwide to generate evidence that influences clinical practice and guidelines. I also lead working groups in international medical societies (ESTRO and ESGO) on environmental sustainability, aiming both to improve the sustainability of the societies’ own activities and to promote environmentally sustainable healthcare.

Consultancy

I contribute to international professional organisations and initiatives in radiotherapy, cancer care and environmental sustainability. I chair the ESGO Sustainability Working Group and ESTRO Green Task Force, and I have held several leadership roles within ESTRO including Board of Directors. I use these roles to help translate research into professional practice, education and policy, particularly in image-guided radiotherapy and the emerging field of environmentally sustainable cancer care.
