Research

My research focuses on developing and applying methods to detect and characterize early protein aggregates in Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. I combine various tissue staining assays, advanced imaging and quantitative analysis of human tissue and experimental models to investigate disease mechanisms, protein aggregation during healthy ageing, and biomarkers of disease progression.

Teaching activities

I contribute to the education of the next generation of medical students in the course Molecular Principles of Cell and Organ Functions. Additionally, I also supervise Bachelor, Medical Research Year, and Master students in the laboratory and contribute to their training in experimental methods, imaging, and quantitative analysis.

Collaborations

My research involves multiple international collaborations aimed at improving our understanding of early protein aggregates and their role in neurodegenerative disease. Current collaborative projects address protein aggregation in healthy ageing and disease, the consequences of disease-relevant genetic mutations in Parkinson’s disease, and the development of new biomarkers for tracking disease progression and treatment responses.
