My research focuses on how immunometabolism and inflammation contribute to obesity-related disease and cardiometabolic risk. In the Börgeson laboratory, we investigate the biological mechanisms that regulate inflammation and the resolution of inflammation.
A central part of my work involves patients undergoing bariatric surgery, where we study metabolic and inflammatory changes associated with weight loss and improved metabolic health. I am particularly interested in how skeletal muscle contributes to the systemic metabolic profile and how inflammatory and immunometabolic processes change following surgery. In addition, I am interested in biological sex differences, with a particular focus on pre- and postmenopausal women. The overall aim is to gain a better understanding of individual variation in disease mechanisms and to contribute to the development of more targeted and personalized strategies to reduce cardiometabolic disease.
