Profile

As Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Head of the Neuroanesthesia Research Unit at the Department of Anesthesiology, I conduct research on anesthesia and blood pressure management during endovascular stroke therapy. My work also examines how anesthetics and vasopressors affect cerebral and systemic perfusion and oxygen delivery.
After graduating in medicine from Aarhus University, I completed my PhD there in 2004. From 2016 to 2026, I was an Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine before being appointed Clinical Professor in 2026

Research

My research focuses on anesthetic and hemodynamic management during endovascular stroke therapy and on how vasopressors affect cerebral and systemic perfusion and oxygen delivery. By combining translational physiology with clinical neuroanesthesia research, our group seeks to better understand the relationship between blood pressure, organ perfusion and metabolism. The goal is to develop more individualized hemodynamic strategies for patients with acute brain injury.

Job responsibilities

My primary responsibilities are to lead and develop neuroanesthesia research, supervise PhD students and other researchers, and initiate and conduct clinical and translational research projects. I also contribute to teaching, research strategy, and national and international research collaborations
