I am an associate professor at the Department of Biomedicine, where I focus primarily on research and teaching.
I have a background in both medicine and molecular biology a. I also act as an external examiner for the medical degree programme.
My academic qualifications include an MSc (1986), a PhD (1991), and a higher doctoral degree in medical science (DrMedSci, 2005), all from Aarhus University.
During my PhD studies, I spent a year working at CSIRO in Canberra, Australia.
My research is translational and patient-oriented. I primarily conduct research into the chronic neurological disease multiple sclerosis (MS), with a particular focus on the immune response—specifically in the context of biological therapy, viral infections, and biomarkers. My research contributes to improved treatment methods for MS patients.
I teach Immunology and Microbiology as well as Infection and Inflammation at the fifth semester of the medical degree program. I have also contributed to the development of teaching materials and the curricula for 2020 and 2026.
My primary area of responsibility is course leadership—both for the Immunology and Microbiology course (where I also serve as team leader) and for all bachelor's projects within the medical degree program. I am the Principal Investigator of a research group and serve as a supervisor or co-supervisor, primarily for PhD students.
