As a professor, I am interested in understanding how social, economic, environmental, and healthcare factors influence oral health and how prevention, healthcare services, and public policies can improve oral health and reduce inequalities across communities. I have a background dentistry, a Master of Science in Dentistry (Periodontology), and a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health. I have also obtained fellowship in Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK. Since 1996 I have been teaching, carrying out research, coordinating courses and taking leadership roles in Higher Education. I have international reputation on innovative and interdisciplinary teaching and research in dentistry, epidemiology and public health.
I conduct research in lra epidemiology with particular focus on social determinants of health, behavioural sceince and psychosocial predictors related to dental clinical conditions and oral health-related quality of life. Using quantitative methods and robust statistical methods, my goal is to generate evidence to improve population's oral health.
My primary areas of responsabilities are teaching and research epidemiology and public health including social determinants of health, oral epidemiology and periodontology. I also contribute as a chair in Oral Epidemiology and Public Health at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, Aarhus University. I conduct international collaborative research in population oral health, oral epidemiology involving deprived and socially disadvantege people. In addition, I act as mentor for postdocs and junior academics.
