Head of the Lyskjær Group and Associate Professor in Translational Renal Cancer Research.
I am a molecular biologist with a PhD in Translational Medicine from Aarhus University. My research focuses on understanding renal cell carcinoma and developing molecular biomarkers that can improve risk stratification, surveillance and treatment of patients with kidney cancer.
Before establishing my research group in Aarhus, I worked at the UCL Cancer Institute in London, where my research focused on liquid biopsy and DNA methylation in bone and soft-tissue sarcomas.
The Lyskjær Group investigates how molecular features of the tumour, the immune system and circulating biomarkers can be used to predict recurrence and treatment response in renal cell carcinoma.
We combine prospective clinical cohorts and trials with molecular profiling of tumour tissue, blood and other patient samples. Our research includes liquid biopsy and circulating tumour DNA, DNA methylation, spatial transcriptomics, T- and B-cell receptor profiling and tumour–immune interactions.
A central aim is to translate these molecular measurements into clinically useful biomarkers across the kidney cancer patient journey — from surgery and surveillance of localised disease to treatment of metastatic disease.
Our research is closely integrated with clinical studies, including the prospective KIDNEY-PAGER study and the Nordic randomised NORDIC-SUN trial.

I lead the Lyskjær Group at the Department of Molecular Medicine (MOMA), with responsibility for research strategy, supervision, funding and scientific collaborations.
I am Principal Investigator of the KIDNEY-PAGER study and lead the translational research programme of the NORDIC-SUN trial. I supervise PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and master’s students and contribute to teaching in personalised medicine and molecular research methods.
A major focus of my work is building interdisciplinary collaborations between molecular researchers, bioinformaticians and clinicians to address clinically relevant questions in renal cancer.
