Slender Structures

ABOUT THE RESEARCH GROUP

We are interested in the large deformations and elastic instabilities of slender structures, that is structures that are characterized by at least one dimension that is much smaller than the others. Examples range from wires, where the diameter is much smaller than their length, to shells, where the thickness is much smaller than the dimensions of the surface.

For example, we are studying the interactions between thin elastic shells and fluid flows, with particular focus in the nonlinear regime where shells can undergo large deformations and elastic instabilities. Throughout our approach, we value theoretical, numerical, and experimental approaches, with the final goal of providing answers to problems relevant to fundamental and applied research.
